This graceful steel arch is a fitting replacement
to the picturesque spans of C. B. McCullough's circa 1936 concrete
bridge structure. The contribution provided by Somerset on this
project is easily defined: to provide the steel erector and general
contractor with an economical method of building the arch and to
produce the estimated man hours to construct it. Our proposal impressed
both these parties and we proceeded with detailed design. The 350
foot arch was erected from a timber trestle which was aligned according
to our erection sequences and crane layout clearances. All rigging,
props and pile jacking heads were also detailed by Somerset. Methods
of attaining the different angles for each box member were provided
to facilitate lifting and connecting.
