Interstate 595

I-75 Interchange,
Davie, Florida

As in the I-95 Interchange, Somerset assisted in winning this project for the same client. Unlike the I-95 project, this four-level structure consists of 1,366 precast segments erected in balanced cantilever. All specially built equipment including tiltable spreaders, stressing platforms, and steel falsebents were designed by Somerset. Some of the spans crossed over a canal and under a newly constructed bridge, so we conceived a 60-ton capacity lifting frame to erect segments that were inaccessible to conventional equipment. We also designed a construction access bridge across the canal to carry a 450 ton capacity crawler crane.
