Pan-Pacific Hotel & Convention Centre

Vancouver, B.C.

Somerset was retained on this fast-track project to provide erection stability analysis, erection sequencing and temporary bracing design. This structure was the showcase at Expo 86.

The convention centre is approximately 1,000 feet long and, together with the hotel, contained 10,000 metric tons of structural steel. The hotel is 28 stories high with both field-welded moment connections and braced bays. The convention hall is spanned by 170 foot trusses. Steel erection took twelve months, after which the roof sails were installed under a separate contract.
