Somerset Engineering designed the erection procedures, shoring and specialized lifting spreaders for the roof structure of the Richmond Speed Skating Oval. The roof structure composed of sixteen v-shaped glulam and steel composite arches. Each arch spans 105 metres, weighs 72 tonnes and requires intricate splice connections. Somerset Engineering designed all specialized lifting, support devices and shoring towers to safely handle the delicate arch sections. The structural steel and arch connections were also designed by Somerset.
