Cableways

Cableways, sometimes referred to as Hi-lines, Cable Cranes, Blondins, are complex lifting apparatus than are comprised of steel  towers and a multitude of wire cables usually spanning long distances over rivers and gorges. They have a travelling load block that can lift heavy loads along the centreline of the cableway and can “luff” each side to a specific distance. Very few construction engineering companies in the world are capable of designing this type of equipment.

At Somerset Engineering we have the expertise to design custom cableways to suit a particular site situation. We provide calculations and shop drawings for the manufacture of the towers, hoisting carriage and load block. We also design all the cables and anchorages and provide the erection scheme to install and remove the complete system.
